    As promised i would post some pictures of crossbows at the army museum in Brussels. My visit there was a bit disappointing concerning crossbows; they had only a few crossbows ( they must haver lots more but at the moment not showed to the public). The museum is worth visiting although it's old-fashioned; it's so filled with uniforms, helmets, weapons, airplanes, canons that it overwhelms you in short time.
    I took one picture of an old pistol ( pre-flintlock era) with beautiful engraving ( for those interested in inlaying their crossbow)

    Does anyone know if these serpentine handles on cranquines have some function besides looks? Do the crank smoother, offer some balance or other benefit?
