Ok! Been looking up designs for triggers online for a while. Found a few off of Youtube, one being crushingneonbabies trigger and Jasonwemp's take on it. Made a plexi mock-up of my slight variations to it. Now this is by no means complete. Its just the start of the backwards engineering process.

I've pretty much got the safety down. But I wanted to add a thumb grip safety like a 1911, any help? Oh also when done in mild steel id like to case harden, but i have no idea how , so any additional help would be appreciated! thanks -

I like the plexiglass mock up. I use cardboard first then if that looks good move on to luan plywood.

A suggestion if I may regarding the sear contacts and overall geometry of the linkage: When pulling the trigger slowly the catch that holds the bow string back should not roll either forward or backwards all until release. If it roll forward it may not hold weight and if it rolls back trigger pull will get harder.

Here is a page From the late Robin Allen's website on case hardening. I have used the method myself and so far so good.

So I read that link. Does that sugar method work for mild steel ? I'm certain it might, I only ask because it had two methods for case hardening and one said mild stock the other wasn't clear. Worth a try for sure.

I used the sugar method and so far so good. Athough I have not taken my crossbow apart to inspect for wear I have shot it quite a bit and has been working fine.

Been thinking about my design again. Wouldn't a giant spring sealed off cause a pressure build up? I'm trying to figure this out in my head while typing this so forgive me if I slide off course. For one , could this be an air source for a air powered crossbow? slip on a arrow or bolt down a small diameter pipe and the internal pressure seal of the spring with a piston... would this give any pressure towards firing an arrow at any speed? And secondly, how loud would a coil spring crossbow be? I'd imagine it'd make a loud rattle if there wasn't any rubber or foam dampeners. I'll try to put my words into picture form. Smile
