    Hello all, to introduce myself, i'm Taxus from the English Midlands and a fellow builder of crossbows

    I've been interested in crossbows for a while as they are slightly overlooked in my country, and decided eventually to try and make one from leftover materials.I then progressed onto more authentic Medieval style crossbows.

    Here is a preview of my latest crossbow build - still work in progress.

    It is intended to be a reproduction of 15th Century German hunting crossbows and will have a bone top, steel bow drawing at about 160lb at 5 inches and roller nut trigger release. The tiller is cherrywood.

    I look forward to contributing to the forum as I have applied quite a bit of advice from this board into my last couple of crossbows.

    I'll put some more info on my finished bows in the relevant threads later if you'd like to see them.

    Howdy, Taxus from the Midlands.
    I'm Geezer from Texas... sorry, I just couldn't let that go by.
    Your cherry stock looks great so far. Welcome aboard!

    Hello Taxus, Welcome to the forum, I am at about the same stage in my crossbow building process as this bow, I'm just trying to save up for a nice steel prod, although it sounds like you have a few more crossbow builds under your belt, we would sure love to see the crossbows that you have already built, and I must say thats a mighty fine looking cherry tiller youve made, keep up the good work, looking forward to your participation in the group.

    Hi Taxus;

    "Yew" are surely welcome. Where I live in Florida we have a great number of Ex-pat Brits retiring. The dollar goes farther than the Euro!

    That looks nice, Taxus! .....slim and trim....no "extra wood". I look forward to seeing more of it!

    Thanks for your comments and welcomes.

    I've now added most of the bone top and the bolt rest. Just a few more fiddly bits to glue in, finish and polish the tiller and it'll be ready for assembly.
    Here's a couple of pictures of how the tiller looks now...

    Hello Taxus

    Really, I am fascinated about your idea. Why? Well, just last year I made some slingshot "medieval" crossbows, but my goal was a real crossbow lunching arrows. Here at Portugal to find good wood is a problem! The vendors sell just like a tree you see.... But I get two pieces of beech wood ( a very nice wood) and I can follow your idea making a crossbow lighter and the problem of wood is saved because I willl make like a box as you.
    Thanks a lot

    Octávio Oliveira from Portugal
