    My workshop! Empty My workshop!

Post by Lightly Sun Jun 26, 2011 10:26 am

So, about a year ago now my Man and I bought this little house in central Texas. One bonus was a workshop in the back. Like the rest of the (foreclosed, but therefore affordable..) house, it was a mess. It is an uninsulated building, concrete slab floor, wiring scary. We have a plan for re wiring that soon. I've cleaned up the inside, (wasps, spiders, mouse nests, etc) we'll knock down the terribly made shelving, and reinstall something more sturdy, with a couple of heavy duty workbenches.
After insulating, I hope my little window AC unit can keep it cool enough to be in there and work.
But, it will be a while. Money is tight, (duh...) and making the house livable comes first.
But, I am dreaming of the day I can go to work, make bows with Geezer, then, come home and make more bows in my own shop!

It might be several more years till I can afford to insulate, make shelves, and get the tools I need. Those mostly being bandsaw, table saw, drill press, etc. Have almost enough hand tools, some given me by my Dad. I had a band saw and table saw, nice old craftsman, but they were stolen out of my garage when I lived in Oakland. Irritating.

So, keeping my eyes out for bargains/free, trades and the like in the meantime. And someday, I'll post here that my workshop is up and going!
Maybe I have to have some bake sales to raise money for it, lol! Very Happy But, we all can dream...

    Just sharing that dream here!

    Take care all;

Hey Lightly Glad to see you have a chance to stop by for a bit.
Gah sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you with the house and everything.
We all need to dream and I have the same dream of having a nice shop at home. These things always seem to take more time then we want them too.

Best of luck and can't wait to see what comes out of your shop. Very Happy

Thanks, Basilisk! Been very busy with my yearly event where I herd about 100 cats.. whew. Glad to finally drop back in and return to some 'normalcy' and fill my head up with kewl bow stuff again, instead of whacking my head over the 25 of 100 cats who insist on being... um. Unherdable?!
So spending a nice Sunday going thru the forum, off and on, while also working on the house...

    Best!

    Lightly,

Good luck with your shop. Keep your eye on you local "Craig's list" for tools. Ebay can be good as well. Sometimes good stuff doesn't fetch a big price if should, should if it is too heavy to ship. You could run a search for say, "band saw 75 miles from (your zip code)"

You may rest assured that there is a Special-Hell for the person who stole your band saw.

Lightly, check Munch's band saw ad on the excalibur crossbows trading forum. Shipped without moter it might be cheap enough for ya. Munch might be willing to barter...
