Worm Drive Bow Press Empty Worm Drive Bow Press

This version of my bow press uses the same frame of the original but replaces the cam clamp design with an inexpensive ($29 U.S.) worm drive from Harbor freight. I moved the crank handle over to the right side and substituted heavy braided nylon cord for the metal cable. With an adapter an unmounted prod can be strung or an unstrung one can be measured for a string. It takes around 12(40-1) turns of the handle to reach brace and with a worm drive the handle can be released anywhere with no backlash.  The 2 pins are 1- 1/4” oak that go all the way thru the 4x4. This pic was taken in the kitchen because the lighting is more uniform.

Nice setup! Definitely more compact than the rig I built that pretty much dominates the middle of my shop floor.

Thanks, have been using this setup for 2 years. This works in the vert or horiz position but obviously required some loop or attachment at the crossbow front.

The nice part of this is-- no worry of a broken wrist because the handle slipped out of your grip.
