    little slurbow Empty little slurbow

Post by jeep Wed Jun 19, 2013 8:05 am

Last week I find a little slur bow without the bow (less then 20 buck!). All the metal parts are OK but the stock is broken and front part is missing. The way that the bow was fixed to the stock is unusual is the firs time I see such way. I just can figure the bow shape , it probably  got two part and I don't think it was very powerful. If any body have photo, info or drawing is welcom.
I intend to built a new one using the old parts. I still don't know wich bow I will ad.Here sone pictures, first a very unusual trigger set.

General view with the rope slot.

The trigger system : Only two part, the "nut" is attached on a spring leaf an the trigger push it down, realoding with the rope.

The first rough out shaping of the future stock.
The total length with the barrel is 105cm, the barrel is 67cm, the slot is 22cm , the gauge about 11mm.

Is this subject not a bit misguided in the "new member introduction"? probably more convenient in "classic crossbow"

Yep.  IMHO it should be under Classic Crossbows, not New Member intros.

I almost succeed in rebuilding it, but "hell is in the details" when I try to shoot , nothing happen .. In fact after checking I find that the spring supporting the trigger bent down ! It mean : The bow is to powerful  . So I have to reinforce all the system including the stock....

I build a lever  inspired by Belgium 19century target crossbow.

Nice work on reconstructing the crossbow!
Also fine work on the lever. More pictures of the lever will be nice.
Pictures of how the clamps holds the prod will be great too.

There is no clamps, but two wood wedges in a square slot. Very simple but very efficient. For the lever, it it a refiting of a old one, so it is not finished yet. The stronger trigger work fine, now I re-enforce the stock  the pistol grip was a little weak . Aftet a lot of shaping and paper sending to do. Pictures later.

Cuting gluing, with pegs, 2 planks 1cm tick, each side to re enforce but-stock and handle (all the stock cherry wood). I also add a front part to the stock it would be, I think, more harmonious . Next step: shaping the all stuff with sanding machine... Very dusty day ahead !!!

    Jeep,
could you give details of the trigger mechanism? And I supose the " barrel "could be made of just regular pipe? And will the string have some sort of pocket for the "ball" ?Your project is just very interesting !

Chaz, look page one of this topic, you have detailed pictures of the trigger.
Yes you can certainly use any tube fitting with the projectile you intend to shoot, but machining the rope slot and the trigger space is certainly tricky .
This is not a pellet crossbow but a slurbow (barrelled crossbow) then only a rope fitting with the rope slot is needed.
    Picture of the cocking lever:
