    Hi there,
    I'm new to crossbow  building, the materials and tools are no problem but i dont seem to find ANY plans of some sort. Can someone  send me some plans or send me  a link or suggest a book with good plans with all the parts in it.
    Thanks.

    Greetings;

    If your looking for plans, there is one on Alchem Incorprated web site. It is an easy plan to follow. Built my first crossbow from this plan.
     As far as books to get your basic ideas, Iolo's First Book of Crossbows by David R.Watson is a great starter, very helpful for me. Also Sir Ralph Payne-Gallewey's  The Crossbow. Both great books. The best source is just to read what has been posted on this site. A lot of great knowledge to be found here!!
     Good luck and welcome aboard

    ok, thanks for the quick responce and thanks for the info.
    As for the plans  on the Alchem Incorprated web site tey are rather helpful but a bit simplistic, I was more looking for a plan with  all the sizes for the metal parts too.

    Most plans are going to be general rather than specific numbers to the nearest .001".  There are a ton of variables - prod size - mass, dimensions, draw length, etc.  Type of action - roller nut, pinlock, dozens of modern styles.  Even within various locktype there are variations - tied rollers vs pin pivoted for example.  The metal work of a tickler/trigger depends on the size and shape of the tiller and other things.  And much more.  Sure you can build just an action... and then build a crossbow around that action.  But I'd say most start with a prod of given specifications, and/or a concept - medieval, rennaissance, Chinese, modern, etc. - and design the metal bits around that...

    You can get some good ideas of appropriate dimensions by looking at the discussion here, plus the Building Wiki.  Also look at parts sold by Alchem and others.
