Since this is designed for a modern excalibur recurve, could this be dropped in to a medieval style and used? i dont see why not unless im missing something, that 1.5lb trigger pull looks nice...

Looks as if there's no reason it could not be dropped into any tiller with an appropriate mortice. Any idea how much they want for one of those?

Just wouldn't look right in a medieval tiller IMHO....

theres a single stage 2.5 lb pull for $129 lifetime warranty, and the parts are 44c hardened to rc 60 and it says polished under a microscope, they have 2 stages for up to $199 1.5 lb pull. im thinking it wouldn't look too bad if you make a nice brass trigger guard and such to draw focus away. I was thinking a pistol grip exotic hardwood stock and such, not quite traditional but would still look good and i can fire wood bolts, of which making is a lot of the fun.

but $129 for a sweet trigger 2.5 lbs would be nice for hunting and longer range shots, but at the same time i guess it takes away from the traditional aspects too.

Reasonable price for some fancy machining, I suppose.

I used to shoot a lot of competition pistol, and the NRA minimum pull is 2.5#s.  The felling is that anything less can too readily led to accidental fire situations.  My combat competition pistols never had less than 4# pulls.

Hair triggers and set triggers are, IMHO, for match grade, long range bench rested weapons, not hand helds.  A  TP of 1.5-2# would scare the stuffing out of me.  One bump and TWANG!!

I would think with all the people buying trigger tech triggers there should be a market for the old excalibur triggers they replace. Maybe they can be picked up for a reasonable price.

Good point about the triggers, the performance gains from a smooth rifle quality trigger would be nice.

From the 16th century on, plenty of crossbows were fitted with sophisticated, multi-lever trigger systems that released with a slender folding trigger.  Yet many or most of those featured a trigger-guard that looks for all the world like an older-model one or two-axle tickler trigger.  I suppose it might be possible to fit a similar trigger to a modern look-alike crossbow with one of these fancy new 2.5 pound releases.  The biggest problem would probably lie in getting the modern trigger fitted beneath the tickler-trigger guard in such a way that it looked pretty authentic.  We've got some clever makers in the group.  Who's up for it?
    Geezer-back to his old-fashioned single-lever ticklers.

Geezer I think the bigger issue if using them for medieval or other period crossbows is the string catch is an over claw design in which the trigger housing rises above the deck of the crossbow. Aesthetically speaking it will not look right. Now if building a more modern style then not an issue at all.

Dohhh, yes, the over-claw won't look right.  The very first crossbow I built, 40 years ago was originally intended to use the prod and lock from an old WhamO Powermaster. After some consideration, I decided the prod was good, but that the lock just wouldn't look right.  If I was gonna build a medieval crossbow, I might as well go for the right lock. I had all sorts of problems with misfire from that original lock, but I learned a lot.  Geezer
