Hey all, way too long time lurker here, finally decided to join!

Been a massive fan of all crossbows since my early teens, when I was intrigued by the Barnett pistols of the time, the Imp and Trident. My first crude build was way back in "84 when I made a tiny pistol loosely based on the Imp. Later years saw a "bulpup" pistol with a similar limb set up to the Crisbow Crossbow of Sth Africa, and a full size, wood stocked trackless model with laminated limbs.

After a long hiatus, and an obsession with all things airgun, I am now ready for another crossbow build.

As a long time fan of the Mad Max movies, and particularly 2, "The Road Warrior" I have just finished sourcing materials to build a copy (with improvements), of Wez's wrist/gauntlet bow....

Anyway, great site, and look forward to contributing!

Welcome, Andy. I'm a huge Mad Max fan, in high school I bought a black pleather bomber jacket just so I could cut one of the sleeves off and run around town embarassing friends and family!
Always wanted one of those gauntlet shooters.
Airguns, huh? I haven't thought too much about them since I was a kid, then recently I read Richard Middleton's book and now I'm thinking about them a lot.

Welcome Andy.! I used to have an old pistol crossbow, the first "serious" crossbow I owned other than some old smaller wooden crossbows I made as a kid. Looking back I realized I stumbled across the old notch and pin mechanism without knowing what it was. I've been a fan of Mad Max since I first saw the shows on tv way back when. I never thought about making one of those wrist crossbows, if you get it done make sure to post it up here! I'd love to see it. Looking at the picture it seems as if there is some kind of cocking mechanism which I assume would have been necessary given the required poundage for such a small crossbow, kind of like that Balestrino on Tod's Stuff.

    Thanks guys.

Yes Wez's crossbow uses an integrated goats foot style lever for spanning. Absolutely necessary considering you only have one hand free to do this with!
The two fingered latch is released via a lever that runs down the side of the unit, and is actuated buy the thumb and forefinger. My design has an overhead latch (similar to an Excal), and is tracked rather than trackless. The limbs will be made of 2-3 laminates of steel cut from bricklayers trowels.

Hoping this crossbow will perform quite well, although it will spend most of its time as a display piece.... on the mannequin arm I have ready for it Very Happy
