can a goat's foot be used with a claplock? Empty can a goat's foot be used with a claplock?

I can't think of a reason why not, but I'd like to know before building. I have a lever that is too small for my big bow, so I'll build a bow to fit the lever.
On another note my big bow at over 250 pounds scares the hell out of me, so it is being reprodded to ~145 pounds, and the 250 pound prod is getting a claplock stock with less draw, and less poop my pants poundage.  Still in the drawing stages.
A bow you're afraid to shoot is worthless.
    cheers,

Hey dude, about the goats foot i cant tell you since ive never used one, why exactly are you afraid of the 250# bow?, when i first got my 150# bow i was afraid that the stirrup would snap and the stock would hit me in the crotch or face when i bent down to spawn it, but after a couple hundred shots you feel a bit safer, also it feels A LOT safer and its easier to use a belt and claw or pulley to spawn the x bow, it feels safer because you push the bow away from you rather than towards you and its easier because you dont use your back.

I worry that my engineering will fail. the lock is all steel, but still.  It just seems a little much for me at this time. Kinda weird, seeing as my go to is a .45-70, and I'll shoot all day with my own loads... Compounded with the difficulty I have spanning it. the stock doesn't lend itself to a pully. I can always put the prod back on regardless. It is a beautiful stock and I want to use it, the 2 prods I just got from Alchem will let me use it.   I know, excuses excuses. cheers

Always trust your gut Phu. I don't know how many times I've gotten in trouble because I ignored it.
And if you're afraid of it, then that makes it no fun.  45-70 eh? I should bring my 454 one day and let you experience that Smile

A goatsfoot used with a claplock?  I don't think so.  Claplocks require the string to be pressed down into the inclined notch and then caught by the hand.  Wippe levers do that well and it's clearly the lever of choice in the renaissance for claplocks.  Goatsfoot (gafa) levers draw the string upward to a point just behind the lock and then drop it into place as you let off the lever a bit. I think you'd have trouble getting the string down in the sloped-notch, much less into the hand.  I suppose it's possible one could re-design a goatsfoot so it would deliver the string into the notch, but why bother?  A wippe is easier to build anyway.  Geezer.

After looking a bit the illustrations on the "book of the crossbow", i have to say i totally agree with Geezer, the drawings on the goats foot seem like it lifts the string from the stock when drawn and the claplock needs to be pushed down from what ive seen, also you can very clearly see illustrations of claplocks being spawn by wippe levers on the same book.
