    Could you give me your thoughts on these two old crossbow plans:

    That last article doesn't look bad at all. It would take some patience  though. You could end up with a decent

    Any Problem with the first plan? That is the one that is the most detailed

    Babbitt for the nut? well OK... a bit soft. I have seen the older Modern Mechanix one at a flea market. It worked and looked nice. The guy was more than happy to demonstrate it, even had the magazine to go with it!

    Terrible heavy though. Almost same as lead.t's been said that you loose a lot of power that way.Being soft ,I don't see the trigger working very well.

    I agree with Phu.Babbit would come in behind steel, brass, bronze, horn or delrin for nut material.Babbit is an excellent bearing material,but not very suitable for a nut,Imho.

    IMHO the "problem" with plan #1 is that it is only calling for a "30-50 pound draw" lemonwood bow.  That's why you can get away with Babbitt for the nut.  Make a better nut, substitute a cheap 80# replacement prod and scale the action/slide mechanism for a shorter cocking stroke and you might have an interesting project.
