    Hi,

I go by Vince.  I am truly new to the world of crossbows but have always found them fascinating. I am going to attempt to make one for myself. I came across this forum and found it very interesting with lots of good information.
My two main questions before I try to build 1) The trigger mechanism. I see a lot of good designs but I am not sure about how to obtain the necessary material. I have seen where some have forged their own aluminum...I do not want to go that route so wondering if there is other resources.

Secondly, not quite sure of the type of stock is best to go with (design I mean).  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Again this is a great forum and love all the topics--I have much to learn!

Where in Il are you? I'm in Aurora. I'm happy to help, especially if you;re local. I still have some delrin if you need a nut, but I'm running out fast.

Shoot, you're right next door. Some weekend we could get together, I have several bows with different triggers, you can try them out.

Vince -- as in many areas, there really is not definitive "best" anything - stock style, or action.  Some of us favor the simplicity of a Skane type push pin action; others revel in the classic roller nut and tickler; still others love hi-tech multi-pivot mechanical contraptions.  Some thing is true of stock types.

Spend some time reading and checking things out here before you make the leap to buying parts, wood, etc. and starting your build.

    Thanks Kenh,

I have been doing research and reading. I am pretty sure I would to try the classic roller nut. I do not think I have the skill level for hi-tech mechanism.
I appreciate your insight.  All good points.

Delrin(tm) is a very "slippery" hard plastic; not quite as slippery as Teflon(tm).  When you make a roller nut you reinforce the bearing surface of the Delrin, where the tickler presses against it, by embedding a short piece of all-thread or a short bolt.

It's my understanding that Delrin is a proprietary name for poly vinyl chloride (PVC) no doubt somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.  The group is good about that. Geezer.

As far as I can tell, Delrin is DuPont's http://www.dupont.com/products-and-services/plastics-polymers-resins/thermoplastics/brands/delrin-acetal-resin.html version of the stuff described here...  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyoxymethylene
