I finally finished my crossbow and it shoots great! The bolts were penetrating the target about 6-7 inches. I did notice that my bolts would fishtail and wobble a bit. Is that normal?  I have some pretty heavy heads on there and wonder if some lighter heads might cure this. Anyway I am very pleased with what I made and cant wait to shoot it some more.

Congratulations on getting your new bow up and running.  Fishtail/wobble in bolts can be from any of a number of causes, from head/tail balance, crooked heads or misapplied fletching, but one common problem is fishtail induced by either crooked prod placement or drawing the bow a bit off-center. Even with a cocking lever, you can get a bow drawn off center.  Try marking the center of the string to make sure you're drawing evenly.  Sometimes a slightly off-center bow will behave better if you deliberatly get the string a tiny bit off center.  You can do that deliberately, a quarter-inch off right or left and see what effect it has on your bolts' flight.  Just get your sights on line and then raise your head an inch or so to watch the flight.  Geezer.

Sure! Here you go. They are 23/64 arrow shafts chopped down to 14 inches. The heads are 190 grain field points. I cut the vanes out 3/32 basswood I got from the hobby shop. I used cyano glue to attach them to the shaft.

Real nice work MaZ, fragile , but who cares, pull the target points and get serious, pile up something too eat. Who cares if the flechting only last for one shot when hunting. Possible that the fletch is way stronger than I give it credit for. Target these babies, with a hunting head, see how they group, that will give you the story on your setup. good lookers though.
