While my last post was about a crossbow, this one is about a bow. One that shoot airsoft bbs. I've built quite a few of these bows (all of which failed, sadly), and I've tried many different weapons but I am still not sure which is best for airsoft.
There is the Airow Gun bow, which is a large airgun attahcment that i got shooting airsoft bbs at around 200 FPS, and it uses magazines for fast reloading. It also doesn't wreck the bow by dryfiring, but it is impractical due to it basically being a long gun attached to a tall bow, which takes up far too much space.
There are the old ancient designs of pouched bullet bows, but I've had tough luck getting them to shoot straight and not into my hand. Many questions about this topic. Would a slingshot style grip that sticks out the side of the bow riser be better than a standard grip for this kind of thing? Would a standard riser be better? Does anybody know how to get the bow shooting straight with a double string format? Has anybody used any of the ShootTech bullet bows?
I've also considered doing an interesting barrelled bullet bow. It would be similar to the barrelled crossbow, with a long barrel following the path of the string, with a magazine attached. I have detailed plans for all the parts and pieces but I'm still curious as to whether it is possible or not. How could I make a tiny detent for the bbs? Should the magazine be gravity fed? Should I incorporate a spring actuated slide?
There are basic reqirements the bow must have in orderto be more useful than my good old slingshot:
-Compact
-High rate of fire
-Takedown
-Able to be used in a heavy brush woodlands environment
-Able to take harsh conditions
-Must shoot 6mm bbs accurately
-SILENT!
Again, questions about the bow:
In Richard Middleton's drawings, he shows off a compound bullet bow with two cams on each limbs, totalling to four cams. The cams keep the string adequately spaced and there is no need for spacer pegs. The pouch will not flip over, hopefully. Would this be the best idea?
Would string silencers work on a double string bow? Where would you put them?
Would Steel limbs work? I'm talking about the thin, light, flexible steel used in handsaw blades. I know they work on a crossbow, so why not on a bow. These limbs aren't heavy at all, either.
Would a short riser with long limbs fare better than a long riser with short limbs?
Would low poundage, lightweight limbs work better for airsoft bbs?
Would airsoft bbs be like dryfiring the bow?
Would it be possible to get it shooting at 300 FPS?
