Hemp cord and nut drilling? Empty Hemp cord and nut drilling?

Post by fester Fri Nov 24, 2017 2:21 am

What's the best diameter hemp cord for binding on the prod and is it best waxed before binding on or after?
What is a good method of finding the center of a delrin nut for drilling? This seems such a simple thing but I'm finding  it difficult in practice and i want to avoid creating a cam affect if the nut pin was drilled off center?

Hemp cord: I get mine from Hemp Basics or Global Hemp, both shops online.  I get their heaviest twine.. usually called 140 lb. or something like that. It's easier to was your cord before applying it.
Center-finding your roller-nut.  I bought a simple plastic center-finder device from the local hardware store.  It's a clear plastic trapezoid with 'V' cuts in the middle. Fit your stock in the 'V', mark it from several directions with a sharp pencil.  start the hole with an awl, then drill thru... preferably on a dril press but it can be done by hand.  Keep at it.  Geezer.

Do you ever varnish  a completed bridle? I watched a tutorial on youtube were it looked like a varnish was applied to finished binding. I cant be sure it was actually varnish as the commentary was in German.

I would not think varnish, which hardens -- it might be an oil like lanolin
