You're on a roll Todd. Very Happy

I was going to mention the side hole roll hut socket issue with heavier weights, but after looking at the wall thickness around the nut I hesitated...instead, went with "When in doubt...start digging!"

I was thinking about the crossbows you've build and revisited the spring hinge safety...A folding "flip-up" crossbow sight native to this style of crossbow can probably be made based on the same spring loaded hinge. It's a bit of clock work level tinkering, but a basic elevation adjustment peep sight is possible...I'll dig up some images/info and get back to your medieval crossbow sights topic. Smile

As Moon likes to say...."Blistering Speeds" ...200fps is NICE...I'm wondering what my monster bow will crank out. Twisted Evil

    Good Day,

    Ivo

As far as the strength around the nut, I feel most but not all the strain is between the nut and the prod. With the remaining stress on the trigger axle.
I would like to see what idea you have regarding sights, but I do not think I am going to put sights on the ones above. Saving that for a future project. I am thinking something like a 1800's era schuetzen style concept. Thinking shoulder stock, double set triggers with claw over release, and prod mounted in the stock not on the end.

Looks like I'll have more time to think about my drop-in trigger/roller night design. Shoulder rotator cuff and bone spur surgery coming up. what a bummer!!

Todd, keep up with the good stuff. :-)

Good luck on the surgery. So far my shoulders are good. Guess I am fortunate considering I used to shoot a 85# longbow regularly (now mostly 50-60) although I still use a 70 pounder to keep in shape.

seems to think archery is the reason for my shoulder problems. when I was 30 to 40 I shot and hunted with 3 long bows, 64, 75 and 81 lb Owen Jeffery bows (I'll let you guess which one I shot the most :-) Those days are long gone but it was fun.

They are lovely, Todd.... what are the lockplates made from on the new bow? Did you rivet them on? And, it looks like walnut. Pretty wood...
And, is that a notch in the butt of the tiller? If so, what is it for? and I see you bought/made a safety for the tickler...like a better look at that!

Thank you Lightly, the side plates are made from 1/16" galvanize steel use in construction painted flat black. It is screwed on with 5 oval headed straight slot brass screws. Notch in the end of the tiller is for using a standard rope cocking aid.
Here is a pic of the saftey I made. I like it because you have to hold the saftey down while squeezing the tickler.
