I have always been facinated with the crossbow, and have been a long time fan of David Watson and Ralph Payne Gallwey. It has always been a dream of mine to own a working 15th century military crossbow with a windlass. The heavier the better, I would to find a working reproduction with a heavy prod and draw weight of 1000lbs or so. I know this is a bit of a stretch, forgive the pun, but if anyone has any idea on who could make such a beast please drop me a line.

Well gentlemen thank you so much for the tip on Tod's stuff. It looks like I might have to pick up that crossbow I always wanted. Its amazing he has exactly what I was looking for! Since I am on a role does anyone make a true composite prod crossbow to reproduce the crossbow of the 14th and 13th centuries? Thanks so much for help and the site.

Well since you're on a roll, I'll roll with you. Smile

Go to the above link again and in the orange side panel(on the left side of Todd's site) and look for a composite prod crossbow. I think he has it. Might want to drop him a note asking about that prod, but knowing Todd - it should be as legit as it gets.

It looks like the composite bow is actually a "composite" bow - a steel bow dressed to look like the real thing.

jbc, a few folks on here have asked about/contemplated making a composite prod, but as far as I've seen the technique and expense have kept them from being available. I'd sure love to own one if they ever went commercial, too!
