I have been offered a replica crossbow.
It is not in the best condition and I do not know if it works properly
but I think it looks nice and I'm thinking about to buy it.

Now the main question: what is it worth?

Probally okay as a wall hanger decoration but as a working example not so much. Just my humble opinion.

The replica bow looks very much like the inexpensive tourist-specials sold in San Marino. I have one myself, hanging around the shop. It dates from 40 years ago, when I bought it from Dixie Arms co.
If it's like mine, the prod isn't a very good spring... the bowstring is obviously unserviceable. The tickler has an unusual external spring. Mine has a very small solid-brass roller nut in a poorly made socket, capped with a piece of black iron. The prod-clamp is an interesting type... not uncommon with Italian bows. I've never cared much for it, but it might be serviceable.
This is a wall-hanger. If they'll sell it for a song, it might be worth having, but don't expect good service. Geezer.

One other thing: If you buy this thing and expect to shoot it, first remove that flat plate-sight just ahead of the string. It's gonna get hit by the string with the first shot.... which is probably why the string is in such rotten shape. Geezer.

Oh...that thing. I don't know how to be delicate enough about that *creation*...good thing Geezer is here and set the example.

Basically...There is a youtube video showing what these bows are.

So...unfortunately this is not a replica or even a weapon. It does however have *some value* if you consider the possibility that it was made entirely by hand, from the scraps found at the plane crash site, by the hard working villagers of ... wherever. scratch

    Ivo

    PS:
Now the main question: what is it worth?

Hmmm...certainly not the asking price...a good start would be $10 and a
promise that that money will go to feed the starving children of...wherever.

thank you all for your delicate reply's Laughing

I do not expect it is a good functioning crossbow.
My interest is only for decorative use, it would look nice on the wall.
The guy asks $ 20,- for it and the money will not feed the starving children.

I will reconsider this buy, I think I can find something better.
