    Hello everyone!
    I found this really old crossbow and I need help from some experts to identify it and give me an idea id it's salvageable or not. Any reply is appreciated!

    Going to say it's a Northern Vietnam bow.

    Copies, and perhaps this example, are common tourist souvenirs and are plentiful

    I have two similar units with the same arrows and quiver.

    Can't tell you which specific tribe, but it's a bow made in the highlands around the border of Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.  Brought one back myself in 1969, made by the beautiful people of the Bahnar tribe in the Central Highlands of 'Nam.

    At first i thought Tailand, but Kenhs explanation seems more likely, its definitely not Chinese, Japanese or European.

    Wow Thanks guys this is super interesting. So maybe I have an original in my hands! ShockedShockedShockedShockedShockedShockedShockedShockedShocked
    Although I am a fan of old things this one is going up for sale.. if anyone is interested I'd be glad to give it to someone who appreciate it like you do!
    I know that it has some history because it belonged to someone who travelled a lot with the military so I give it at least 50 years of age.

    Yeah... 40-50 years would be about right.  I was in-country in 1969-70 -- 45 years ago.  Check Ebay, you see these offered there(under Wood Crossbow usually) fairly frequently, and that will give you some idea of a reasonable price.  They're not worth $ hundreds, I can tell you that.

    Silvia, go on Ebay  now . There is one listed. I went ,Ebay --used crossbows.I have also found a couple of articles on how they are made.About all you need is a jackknife. Called a Montagnard.

    "Montagnard"  is a French term meaning "mountain dweller" which was applied to the Degar peoples of the Central Highlands.  There are about a dozen tribes of Montagnards, each of which makes a slightly different crossbow.

    Kenh , I also learned that they made different sizes . It depended on what they wanted to kill. Bigger animal  took bigger bow. I was impressed with how they used everything.A bow string was made out of a thin slice of bamboo.And they carved the whole thing
