Thought I would share a quiver I made years ago. I got the idea researching Medieval quivers. As you can see it has been well used. It's made of a thinner leather than tooling leather and hardened with wax. I Spanished round braided the seams. The inside has one pocket for small things and the whole quiver is a little over 2 inches thick. It will hold 24 two fletch bolts with field points.

Good stuff, I also like the design and overall looks. Never heard of Spanish Round Braid, any chance you can do a close up? Also...24 bolts sounds wicked!...all in all - you know we love pictures... go wild!

Re: Quiver with Spanish round braid.
Thanks for the compliments guys! I will try to take more pictures but don't hold you breath. My camera takes terrible pictures and I am too cheap to replace it. If you can see between the two rivits of the strap that buckles I left a bit of a loop. That was on purpose so I could slide a second field point bolt through. The thin strap you can see behind, just sticking out is a leg strap. I hunt with this and didn't want it flopping around against my leg.

Re: Quiver with Spanish round braid.
As you can see there were 15 field points, 4 broadheads, 2 judos and 1 fishing point. Don't ask me why the fishing point, I don't know other than I might have been sniffing too much glue the day I made it. The inside bottom has a strip of saddle fleece, it keeps the bolts from sliding around and protects the leather bottom from the points. I couldn't get any closer pictures, sorry guys. Don't know if you can see the inside pocket very well but it has beeswax, spare string, etc.

Pacer, that is beautiful. You have got to tell me how you braided those seams. I've been scouring the web since I saw this post and have only found info on free braiding.

Re: Quiver with Spanish round braid.
Try googling "eight string round edge braiding". I learned how from a book by Bruce Grant titled How to Make Cowboy Horse Gear on pp. 123-126.

Re: Quiver with Spanish round braid.
I had found a couple of how-tos on this type of braiding after pace narrowed the search down a bit, but that is a very good one. Thanks for the link, 8fingers! I got into leatherworking a few years back myself, as a consequence of sword-making- I needed custom scabbards, belts and baldrics for my custom blades. Pretty basic, utilitarian skills so far, but this type of braiding is the perfect way to finish the baldric on my favorite sword. Of course I've got to make a bolt quiver now, too!

Re: Quiver with Spanish round braid.
Here's some other stuff I've done over the years though it doesn't have anything to do with crossbows. Just wanted to inspire Gnome to get the baldric and quiver done.

Yeh man.
That's a spark to start a fire - this topic officially opens the Leather Working forum.
Pacer and all you guys who are into leather work (not so long ago - myself included)...let's rip this forum apart.

Wouldn't bother me if you made a forum for the rope/knot work involved with a tie in prod and string stuff
