Hello to all
I wish i found this site earlier!
Ive just completed my first build and could have used a bunch of help from this forums members. Il start by showing you my first build. Based mainly on an article from a 1963 edition of a magazine called "Science and Mechanics" i found online here.
It took quite a while to build as it was only an hour here and there project, my next build is going to be a much shorter, better build.
The design has a few flaws, for example the trigger release mech does not allow for the tongue to hold the bolt in place, the trigger itself doesn't allow for an easy trigger pull by any means, but it is a working crossbow thats for sure and is a bunch of fun to shoot with.
Now to some questions for my next build. One of the problems i ran into was making the sides of the trigger housing flush so it would fit cleanly into its hole. This is only because i didn't like the idea of using small axles and hammering the thing shut for ever. Instead i used bolts, now i can counter sink the head flush on one side, but is there a way to make the other side flush without having the tools to tap and thread?
Also i have a few trigger designs drawn up that i need opinions on. Unlike my last build the nut will have two prongs to sit either side of the bolt.
There crude but you guys should get the idea (i forgot the stop post under the trigger in the blue one).
Cheers
