Hey there (or here? (: )

    hello everybody

after i've finally started and finished my spear gun it came to me, that it would be about time to make a crossbow. So i googled a bit, found this forum and decided to post when i'll finish...
but i got in some troubles and would need help solving them. Having decided to produce reverse compound i drew a plan using sketchup, when i stumbled on the problem. Since i couldnt find any limbs decision was to make them myself. fiberglass and all. but after thinking it over the power and design troubles me. so there are dimensions and any suggestions are welcome... 50mm high, 550mm long and 8mm wide at fixed end and 16mm at free end (where cams are supposed to attach)the widening begins to take place on the interior side of limb at 285mm from fixed end and is at final width at 335mm
so any idea how much power would this make and if it would even function?

    thanks

    Tilk

Hi, Welcome to the forum! Very Happy

Sounds like a cool project. Complex to boot too. cyclops

Guys on the Russian forum built a few reversed crossbows like that. I'll ask Ivo to find/post some links to help you out.

While we're on it, can you post your sketchup design. If you have a model (even half finished) it would be really cool to pick at. drunken Have you uploaded it to the Warehouse yet? Pictures are good too.

Are you planing on making cams or buying a set?

kinda realised how complex it is only after making up my mind ...
regarding cams; atm the idea is to make them, but they are the last thing that im gonna be working on

and here is the last idea ... working on a slightly different(angles and stuff...) but just cant find time to draw, with all the exams on the way ):

Looks really cool. Reminds me of this guy's crossbow a little.

I think he says he uses hokey stick shafts for limbs Laughing which works actually. cyclops

Looks like Ivo hasn't checked in yet, but I gave him the message. Probably busy at work again, but he'll be around later to post some stuff. He actually has similar project in the works. Not sure how far he is into it, but he did scuff up the ceiling when talking about it back in the day. Laughing

He was planing on doing "round" cams and if I remember right, he said that with the more complex cams you have to design the entire limb system all at once since everything is inter dependent (complex stuff that I can't wrap my head around pale ) BUT !!!pulleys!!! with those it should be even easier thou. Smile

I'll see Ivo today and we'll talk about it. Good that you include the model, maybe I can get him to put some time into it. drunken

    Till then cyclops

Sorry, I was indeed very busy at work these past months...I'm a lab guy, make dental prosthetics and it's Easter time, so everyone was after getting their choppers in line for the celebration. For some it's kinda big and they get all dressed up for church...so I kinda missed out on a few things to help make these times to give folks the ability to smile while chomping on the steak or whatever the table offered. Smile

    Anyway, back on topic here.

I did do some research on reverse draw bows and everything going with the set up. The picture my bro posted above is something I sketched up a while ago when I was in the market for a CNC Plasma cutter...was planing on making it a sheet metal assembly like the Russian "Big Strizh" crossbow. and using cheap 150# fiberglass prods cut in half for split limb setup and oriented for reverse draw. And yeh, pulleys is what I was thinking of going with first before getting into cams...and even then start with round cams and getting a better understanding of them before moving onto the more complex cam shapes/designs.

Never got the plasma table, so the project was set aside, but I'll load up the model today and write up a little post on it...definitely got a few comments on the limbs/riser/ and other stuff.

    *Be back soon* Smile
