    Hey all, I'm a recent crossover from shooting standard recurve bows. It's a fairly commonplace modification to 'warf' a compound bow riser to hold recurve limbs.

    A compound crossbow (an old Horton Hunter Elite) fell into my lap, and I was wondering if anyone has experience doing something similar on a crossbow? Excalibur limbs, for example, on the compound Horton? Any obvious design problems I'd run into? Maybe the trigger not being strong enough without the letoff?

    I would think the same issues as a "warf" , size and shape and angle of limb pockets. Likely need to machine the limb pocket or add an adapter plate. But the trigger may be the real problem. It was designed for less holding weight also as holding weight increases the trigger will get progressively harder to pull.

    Now some crossbows are design for both (Tenpoint flex) but most are not .

    Axeli, Welcome to the forum.

    Interesting thoughts. I've given it some thought myself since I have a few broken compounds lying around the house.

    All in all, sounds like a job for a set of custom limbs. Wonder if Elkridge would do something like this. Give them a ring, see what they say >>> http://www.kids-bows.com/contact-us.html (don't let the site's name fool you, these guys make laminated hunting prods)

    Unless of course you're down to play the game and roll your own...always that option. Smile

    As for the trigger...Todd covered it pretty well.

    On that Horton, is it an aluminum housing trigger, or one of those sheet metal boxes. A picture would be nice.

    If you do go through with it, it will certainly be an interesting project. Keep us posted.
