    String Twist Empty String Twist

    Post by bryan25shaw Sun Apr 29, 2012 3:50 am

Hello, I have a prod and string from a manufacturer. Is it normal for the string to require a lot of twists (about 10-15 full turns) to reach the desired brace height of 3.5", or is my string too long?

    Thanks

No, that is unforunatley too long a string. The less twist, the better.

As Dane says, fewer is better with string twist. The ideal is more like 2 or 3 full twists.

You can safely use the string with 10 or 15 full twists, but it will be stretchy and inefficient....better to make a new one.

Be sure and measure the length of the string against your prod. My rule of thumb is 1.5" shorter than the nock to nock length. Factor in string stretch when you do make a string, too.

The less brace height and twisting you have, the better. Twisting puts more strain on the outer fibers and makes the bowstring weaker (and springier, as mentioned). Excess brace height only wastes energy. So, unless the bowstring is really slack unless twisted those 10-15 times, it should work just fine.
