Spring powered circ saw blade shooter Empty Spring powered circ saw blade shooter

Post by JoergS Mon Apr 30, 2012 10:24 pm

The Discovery Channel International will send a film team over here on Friday. They love my circular saw blade shooter and asked for an improved version. Sure! I revisited the issue.

The biggest drawback was the need of a dowel through the middle. This limited the power and penetration.

So I looked around and found clay pigeon throwers do exactly what I wanted to do! They throw a heavy object (120 grams (1/2 lb) or so) and they give it a spin in orer to stabilize the flight.

I took the idea and made on of these. Of course I added a stock so the weapon is hand held, and I used a magnet to hold the saw blade in place. I found that I have to throw the blade at an angle, canted to the right, or elde the disk will flip to the left quickly. With the canting, it flies beautifully straight and quite far.

A strong 60 kg steel spring powers this thing. Quite a kick - and sideways! You have to get used to this, really.

I can hit a shoe box size target from 10 meters. Not great accuracy, but the best saw blade shooter I have ever fired, for sure!

This will need some enhancements, basically for looks.

Cool as always! Can you decapitate zombies with this?

I don't think it has enough power to decapitate. With a much stronger spring and from a fixed mounted position, certainly.

It still is very dangerous - I do not advise using saw blades and this launcher for frisbee games Smile

That looks like way too much fun to be safe, smart, or legal. I love it.

It's all fun and games till someone looses a finger. We keep coming back to that Road Warrior theme......

Mac, if one were so willfully ignorant as to use this as a form of frisbee and were to loose a finger, they probably had it coming.

Ah, Unreal Tournament! I loved that game, and the Ripper was about my favorite weapon. Decapitaing enemies left and right, good clean fun.
