    wooden prod from Bergen

Post by mac on Fri Aug 17, 2012 10:13 am

I found this while looking through....

"Margret I , Regent of the North, the Kalmar Union 600 years" It is an
exhibition catalog from the National Museum of Denmark , 1997.

It is erroneously described as a "long bow", but the length (89cm) tells us what it really is. The text describes the section as a sort of flattened oval or "D", but I don't trust the author as to be abel to distinguish the back from the belly. I am presuming that the bow is deflexed, and the flat is on the convex surface.

There are very few finds of this sort, so we should take joy in it!

The citation in the text is to...
Greig, S. 1933: Middelalderske byfund fra Bergen og Oslo.
    Oslo

That's pretty cool. I love seeing old weapons. I live near Higgin's armory in Worcester MA, though it doesn't have a lot of stuff, its got a few gems. Just something to appreciate when seeing a medieval weapon in person , to wonder its history, if its seen combat, etc ..
