    " A new Idea"...?

Post by olrono on Wed Sep 05, 2012 6:31 pm

I would like to purpose an idea I hope every one would like to see. I know many of the members have said here on their posts, "they like seeing pictures of projects in the making and some of the new guy's crossbows". And speaking for my self, I just love looking at crossbows! And I always wonder what some members crossbows looks like here on the forum. So... how about a gallery showing every members favorite crossbow they made or have?
I would limit it to only one picture per member considering the available space for this etc.
Maybe this would even draw more attention to this forum in the long run?
Any way I read 99% of all the 'posts' here and enjoy it!

I was sort of surprised that there was no Gallery when I first checked out the site.

Yeah I thought the same too when I found this place. By the response to my post, I am sure I over estimated them.

Looks like only the "brave" wanted to answer-up to this post? (love your avatar of "Braveheart", one of two of my favorite all time movies. The "Patriot" being the other.) Well I found only two members interested in my idea so far and I can say, I don't expect much more... Sleep

With you on this one , looking at others work helps to inspire and at the end of the day hand made crossbows are a work of art.

Why just one? Some less than scrupulous folks will use gigantic size images and clog up the download time; others will post dozens or even hundreds of pix that may or may not be relevant (things they find on the 'net not just a personal favorite. Also being able to post just one doesn't mean you can't replace it with another one after a time.

I think if we do this that, like avatars, there should be a physical size limit. I've been to other sites with unlimited size and a gallery can be painful to wait for loading...

Very good comments so far. This could turn out to be exciting, having a gallery of possibly the finest collection of crossbows on earth? We will never know till we see them... Very Happy

Since the "man" is back I wanted to ask him if the crossbow on the masthead really exists? Does he own it? or is it a 'file' photo? I think I saw it mentioned before but I don't remember. Any way, I think this is a good place to bring up my idea of the "gallery". At least "some" of us would like a feature like this and think it would bring more notoriety to this site.
Is it possible we could create the worlds best crossbow collection together? Wink

    Hell yeah I'm back..haha!

Last time I checked out the gallery thing for this forum it was a paid option, or so it seemed to be and was around $60/mo for a limited storage space, if it goes over the available megabytes (yes megabytes...those guys are blood suckers) the charge extra just like phone companies...at the time it was kind of a serious stab at the resources I had. But I'll check it out again and will do what I can to bring this feature to the guild. It definitely would be nice to have a nice gallery here, especially with all your works there and make a widget that would play a slide show or something...fantastic addition that would be - I'm with you guys on this.

    Thanks Chaz. Smile

    Guys,

The gallery is almost set and good to go.

I know you can see it, but don't use it yet...there is one last error I need to deal with before it goes live. If you already uploaded a few images, it's no biggie...I'm just working on a little glitch there that might cause your images to be deleted...so if you did upload and they disappear, all I can say is - sorry about that...forums are a pain in the ass to configure. Laughing

Thank you for setting up the 'Gallery', I saw for a short time a nice wooden stock, but then it went away? Since I have been viewing your site I have seen so many nice crossbows I thought for sure must go in the gallery. Well I'll be waiting... How bout that neat 'pistol crossbow', I forgot his 'handle' ? I think that one among many others would be a good start. Wink
Oh yes, almost forgot... The crossbow on the 'Masthead' is yours or file photo? Thank you Ivo.

Orlono, sorry man...the bow in the header doesn't belong to me (haha, I wish Laughing ). There is a bit of info on it here though: Link

As for the Gallery...The tech are working on the issue there...still a few glitches. If you want to post pictures in your posts, then just go ahead and use the forum's picture posting button. I have it explained here: Posting Pictures

I'll get it up there eventually, but Gallery is not that big a deal really. Maybe for a bit of eye candy, but I'd rather see detailed builds here with lots of pictures, explanations of how they did it, discussions on the matter, and videos of the shoots. That's my kind of eye candy...but we'll get to the Gallery...Home Page...Forum Portal...and all that other good stuff in a bit. Very Happy

    Kale,

I also have wondered about it, but have chilled out to believe it to be a typo easlily explained by the typist leaving out the "a" in ideas, easily done in the excitement leaving a post.

Typos really are not a big deal ......... I try to notice mine before leaving a post, however it still happens occassionaly any way to most of us at one time or another.

OK you guy's don't you think it has been driving me nuts too? After all I did it... did you ever notice the "s" is right next to the "a" ? It's "A new Idea". And I can edit in the text area but not over at the title header, got it?

Yes you can, just need to go back to the very first post and edit it there...kinda basic logic once you see it.

Spelling is really no biggie, but seeing you guys are on top of it is respectable. king
