I would like to offer my services building laminate crossbow prods. I can't give a simple price list since there are too many variables involved. I can build single or split limb prods based on your custom bow's needs. Let me know what you need, recurve or straight, what style or look you are after and I will do my best to help you find a workable solution for your bow. I have built 10 bows with what I consider to be permanent bows of Osage, hickory, bamboo and even exotic hardwoods.

I specifically love to build fiberglass backed bows. I can do bows of many laminates with a core riser and tips or heat recurved solid wood bows backed with hickory. These can be further backed with sinew or your choice of material and retillered accordingly.

I am very open to trades for metal parts and wood stock and tools. I have many projects that need specialty metal parts built. I get tired of seeing the same old fiberglass bows on so many really nice crossbow projects. I will offer a replacement guarantee based on the honor system to any trusted member of this site. If you use it as specified and it fails I intend to build bows in pairs so as to always have a replacement unit immediately available. I might, after a period of use, ask for materials cost to be covered but my primary concern is that your crossbow gets the prod that will work for it's life.

Let's build beautiful, effective, fun crossbows that stand the test of time together.

Well I don't do sinew. I could make you a blank for backing with sinew. I could even put a lam of. 040 glass between the Osage belly and hickory backing for toughness.

If that sounds doable I would need more information. Draw weight, length, socket dimensions, fastening system and desired prod length before I could start to price it. Also, would you want a single piece of Osage heat recurved or laminations glued into shape? Laminations would take less set but look more modern. Tell me as much about the intended xbow as you can.

    Hi,
    I am based in Dublin.

I am looking for information about making my own prod.

I have found some basic info about thickness, laminations, tapers etc for traditional and take down recurves, but not for Crossbows.

I'm not bad at making stuff (This is the last thing I built, albeit from plans http://davesboat.blogspot.ie/2011/08/quick-sailing-clip.html)

I'm looking to build something which can be used for target shooting, I'm thinking along the lines of an somewhat ornate sporting bow from the 16th century.

But I was not quite prepared to go as far as Sinew and Horn.

That leaves steel, fiberglass, or composite.

    Composite's my preferred solution.

Where can I find a starting point for building say an 80lb draw prod.
    Outline shapes?
    Thickness?
    Taper?
    Fibreglass weight?

Also, most of the laminating for Bows seems to require hot boxes? Are there suitable glues which don't?

    Thanks

    Dave

Hi Actionbows, have not forgot about you. Plan on having you build me something maybe after all the holidays are over.

Something like Elkridge Archery made as far as profile is concerned. Thinking around 175 to 200 pounds.
