scratch Hello. Been thinking of a crossbow to buy under $500-600. I like excalibur for their weight, but most importantly for the fact their recurve and extremely simple to re-string in the field. Talked to the owner of the local archery supply store and he said the Horton Vision 175 was the quietest X-bow hes ever shot. I just don't like it for the fact that I need a crossbow to outlast me and what i can do with it. I just feel like a compound would be too hard to maintain. Does anyone have any third party crossbow manufacturers ? I've looked for months online , so I've probably heard of everything but discontinued models. I wonder if theres a recurve crossbow like the barnett commando.. anyhow I'm open to suggestions! study

Here is a qualiy list not in any order and I am sure I missed a few.

    -excalibur

    -middleton

    -kodabow

    These three are exclusively recurve

    Some other that offer recurves

    -barnett

    -horton

    -parker

    -tenpoint

    -maximus

You won't go wrong with any of these brands.

Koda bow looks cool , I've seen their website , but I think the look is too "tacticool" imho of course , I've considered the Excalibur XT but its definitly a lot more expensive. Haven't really looked at Middleton xbows before.First "real" crossbow purchase. 600276

I too have been less than thrilled with the tactical style and have prefered more classic styles. Although lately I find them to have it's own appeal. I have talked to the owner of kodabows several times and can tell you the man is serious about building the best crossbow there is down to the smallest detail. I have handled and shot them and feel it is a very solid crossbow. A bit heavier than an Excalibur or Middleton but then that makes for steadier aiming.

Of course if classic look is what your after you could put on a wood stock like I did with an Excalibur I had.

Being a wood finish fan , I'd love to get a wooden stock for an Excalibur x-bow. I've looked at Parker Safari Classic crossbows but again, I prefer recurve limbs. How is the trigger in the Excal ? I love the weight , as I've tried them in a local store but there's a buy before try policy.

I would say the trigger pull on an Excalibur is very good. Crisp without a lot of travel. There may be others with a lighter pull although I am not saying the Excalibur is heavy.
