    Asian Crossbow Information Source

Post by kenh on Thu Dec 06, 2012 6:43 am

There is sooo much more to “Asian”
crossbows than the famous (or infamous) Cho Ko Nu Chinese Repeating

The peoples of Asia in general and China in particular
were building crossbows with sophisticated metal lock crossbows and high
powered (300#) bamboo leaf-spring prods well before the time of Christ.
For those who might be interested in such things, the Asian
    Traditional Archery Network
has a wealth of information just waiting to be mined. Here are just
    a few topics:

    Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD)
    Bronze Lock Plan

    Disassembled original photographed
against 1/4” grid paper for easy scaling and dimensioning.

Discussion of Building and Firing A
    Replica Han Crossbow

    Illustrated Ming
Dynasty (1368-1644) Manuscript of Building and Using A Crossbow

The Han Dynasty lock made a comeback
during this time. They also used European lock mechanisms...

    Awesome resources.

    Thanks for sharing Kenh.

I remember watching some videos presented by someone at ATARN on traditional Chinese bows.
