OK...so ive mentioned over at the welcome thread that i am needing to complete a xbow before deer season (Sept) here in Saskatchewan.

I want to know if you guys think this 150# prod is sufficient for hunting deer, elk, moose etc. Ive taken moose and elk with a 65# compound bow before but have no idea what to expect with an xbow. Maybe i should be scrapping this and starting from scratch with wood stock and a much more powerful prod etc.

Secondly...is this trigger strong enough. Ive got the design from Robin Allen's website. Ive hardend the trigger set.

Thirdly.....will the mounting of the trigger be strong enough with the bolt passing through the bottom of the synthetic stock just behind the trigger through a plate first. And another bolt just in front of the trigger.

4th...Is this synthetic stock strong enough to withstand the forward and backward force of the prod in action or will i need to reinforce down the centre of the stock with some sort of metal etc. and attatch onto the prod bracket.

5th...Any thoughts on a design for a bracket to fasten the prod to the synthetic stock?

I welcome all thoughts with anticipation and appreciation. Thanks for viewing my xbow project.

The rail is alluminum and is actually a used track from a garage door opener. lol

    Roonie,

Very interesting build you have goin' on there ! The trigger mechanism looks good, I like the use of tension pins and the use of the garage door track and the synthetic stock ! Bet you wont have trouble working out a prod bracket. Of course who is to tell you what is right or wrong? Seems the initial consideration would be draw length, Knowing you are not finished..... the trigger seems quite exposed at the momment ( are you planning a gaurd ?)

    Cheers McGiver,

150 pounds is enough, as you know shot placement is key to getting game. But having said that it does no hurt to have extra power for times when things don't go as planned.

Looking great! I like the black vs aloy. About prod placement, would, or better said, could it be an option to mount ur prod in a way that u can adjust the distance from the trigger?
So u can get a longer power stroke for heavier bolts?
U could mark the track so u can set the prod at the ideal stroke for any bolt!
Or is this me dreaming!!! I am no expert at drawlength and power calculating etc, just wondering.

its a prod that come from a xbow with a 15" draw so not sure what may happen if i stretch things. I bet I could get at least another 2" out of ehr. ....with glasses on ....lol...its a spring steel prod so im guessing its pretty tough. Like any spring steel , the more ya work it, the weaker she gets.
