    I picked up this prod from the man himself...Robin Allen . For all who knew him....a master in our time.

    Trouble is Robin has passed and i , due to illness, have not got any specs on this prod. So if i could get an ID and some specs on this prod would be great.
    My project has been on hold now for a couple years but its time to finish it before sept. hunting season.
    The prod appears to be spring steel with some sort of material weave on top with plastic ends att.

    I need to finish this project as there is a giant Saskatchewan White Tailed deer with my name written all over him...lol

    any help would be great

    That is a Horton prod that they used on their Steelforce model.

    They had different poundages, a lighter one not sure what poundage and a heavier one 150 pounds. Overall draw from bow to string catch 15", 5" brace+ 10" powerstroke.

    Here is a picture of one mounted on one of my medievals.

    thanks! so how does a person find out what poundage mine is? just by the measurements you listed?? There are no ID marks on this prod anywhere. Roughly how fast will this thing propell a bolt? Is Horton even around anymore? thanks for the quick reply. Any idea who can help me further with my build on here or should i just start posting........where? I need some guidance soooos i dont blow my eyes out. Im very good with my hands etc. just need to know strengths limitations for the build.

    The crossbow pictured was shot through a chronograph today. It shot 212 fps with a 475 grain arrow.

    Don't know how to tell which one you have.

    Todd the archer...how were you able to attain that prod...did you sqruonge it from leftover parts or did Horton acctually sell that prod to you. The reason i ask is I may want to purchase the bracket that holds the prod onto the stock rather than building one. What area on this site should i post my parts and progress of my build so that i can get some input. Nice combo by the way. I like it. Kill anything with it yet?

    I bought a complete crossbow off of craigs list just for the prod.

    There was no bracket itself that holds the prod in the original stock. The prod went through a square hole and was held in place by a screw that goes in from the front against a pressure plate.

    i was just reading past reviews on the net about the steelforce and many guys say there were/are junk and some even stated that the steelforce was dangerous to shoot. They did not elaborate as to why. I hope the issues had nothing to do with the prod on the steelforce. Did you shot the crap out of that xbow and steelforce prod without any issues Todd. Tell me also....did you mount that prod flat against the stock or tilted slightly downward so as to let off some string pressure off of the rail? That deer in your avatar...did you shoot that in PA. Thats a pretty good set of antlers for PA ....No?

    As far as the prod goes, The original owner had taken 3 deer with it before he upgraded his equipment. I bought it to replace a prod (laminated fiberglass/wood)on another one of my crossbows that delaminated during a very hot day. I hunted with it this past season (with no shots at game), with it cocked for many hours at a time. Never had any trouble. One reason I bought it was for durability.

    The prod is mounted at an angle so that the string has slight down pressure on the deck. On the original Horton stock it had considerable down pressure. This may be why I get a little more speed on it's current mounting. It shoots 212 fps with a 475 grain arrow where as in it's original configuration is shot 205 fps with a 450 grain arrow.

    Thanks, yes that is a Pennsylvania deer, nice set of antlers although I have seen much bigger racks. My best deer to date and a large bodied one at that! I think it is not bad for Pa, but probably not much compared to some in the midwest.
