Hi,everybody here.I am a crazy fans of the chinese traditional crossbow like your enthusiasm on the medieval crossbow.Frankly speaking, the bow and trigger of chinese crossbow are more efficient in energy transformation and more senstive in trigger pounds.
I update the chinese traditional crossbow trigger drawing in the above site according to the unearthed cultural relics of Qin dynasty.

    total height:14cm,total width:7cm
    hook thickness:5mm,hook-hook-distance:10mm

Where is the energy savings? I'm not necessarily arguing that you're incorrect because I am quite new to crossbows and mechanical actions, I'm just wondering where this savings is happening.

Is it that this trigger can hold back a greater string force while requiring less force from the hand to operate? Because I can see how that is possible looking at the pictures.

But if you're talking about an energy savings in the process of transferring energy from the crossbow to the bolt, then I can't see how it is more efficient.

    Please clarify

1.The energy is stored in the front and back of the bow in different distortion(extenstion and compression). The chinese crossbow use sinew and horn to make composite bow, unlike the widely used heavy steel/spring in europe, they are quite light to hold/draw and smart in resile. That means a high projectile speed can be got with a low draw pounds. So there is seldom special accessories to draw the string in ancient china.
    2. It is recorded in ancient military engineering book that the bronze crossbow trigger can hold about 1900N(6 Dan)draw force easily. This type trigger was used more than one thousand year without much modifications.
I don't mean to overestimate the wisdom of ancient chinese. After all,a large population and the ever-present warfare can boost the military technologies to a extent beyond the reach of other countries.History is post page. I just feel in love with the ancient little creatures.
