Pistol crossbow prods??? Empty Pistol crossbow prods???

    Post by 60seagulls Fri Nov 15, 2013 3:51 am

Can any one tell me where I can order a 15-18 inch 50-80lb prod for the homemade lexan (yes see through) crossbow pistol? would prefer a steel if possible but I can adapt my frame to a glass one.
It is very hard to get anything of quality here in Thailand so any help would be greatly appreciated. At a later date I will post pictures of this pistol. I think it will be one of a kind.
    Thank you in advance

I've found both 80# fiberglass and 50# steel prods on Ebay and Amazon. The steel ones used to be real cheap, but one lot I got were all twisted and warped and unusable. You can still get them for about 8 U.S. dollars, and hopefully the higher price means higher quality control.
Clear lexan? This I have to see!

I have a half dozen or so of the steel ones, of which a couple might be soundly formed. Seems like a pretty simple thing to pack one up and send it to you if you covered the postage, but wouldn't we then be breaking the same silly law that keeps online retailers from shipping direct to you in your country?

You might want to consider fabricating your prod. 3/4" rectangular fiberglass bar stock should be readily available from a number of sources, and making one from spring steel would be much easier to accomplish on the scale of a pistol bow than a full size weapon, I imagine.

Then again, since you are making the body from clear lexan, I wonder if there is a clear, transluscent, or otherwise cool looking material you could make a functional prod from? I've never worked with Lexan thicker than .01", so I don't know much about it's tensile properties. Acrylic flexes nicely but shatters like glass when it gets to the breaking point. I have some 3mm clear PET I've thought about playing with, my assumption, though, is that it would be pretty durable but probably not rigid enough. There's always PVC if you want something opaque.

Have you started fabrication on this project yet? I'd really like to see what this looks like.

Glad to hear it. I've used The Crossbow Store a couple times, not a bad vendor.

I usually copy the direct link for the image from my hosting site one at a time and use the "insert an image" icon and paste the link there. Never had a problem with a post too large, but I don't think I've tried 23 in the same post. Maybe break it up into several posts?
