I'm about to make my grove, I'm going to start by carving a vary small grove then finish with dowel rod and sandpaper, need to know what depth should the grove be? Also what size dowel rod to finish my work with?

I use an arrow shaft and 80 grit, then finish it by hand. The depth depends on the arrow and string diameter. You want the string in the middle of the shaft.
