    Can somebody  inform me on the maximum bow draw weight that can be pulled with a windlass?

    Manuael, If you look at any of the medival winches,they will tip you off that they will pull some pretty serious weight . I make mine with a double block setup. I'm pulling 250# with one bow with hardly no effort. It takes more effort to tend the bow and keep it upright. The heavier you build the winch , the more you could SAFELY pull. One has to use your head here.

    Manual,  I just made the winch from looking at [pictures. It's not that hard.I made the main take up pulleys out of delrin, which readily gotten on ebay. An easy way to make the ratchet is to buy a small chin drive sprocket, like for  a number 35 chain. It can also be hand filed easily.
