    Greetings Arbalist Guild,
I am active Laurel in the SCA out in AZ and have been shooting period crossbows for over 13 years. I have made a number of period crossbows so far and just resently found your site from New World Arbalest web site. Looks like a lot of great info and work posted here. I also do hobby blacksmithing/bladesmithing and I'm a Materials Engineer in everyday life.
Looking forward to reviewing more of the site.

Hey and welcome to the site from another SCA playing Arizonian. I'm down in Tucson.

So did you make it out to Estrella war?

Yes, just got back from Estrella War and had a good time shooting my crossbow. We did have some high winds on Sat but otherwise great fun. I'll post a few photos of my crossbows soon. Where is the best folder to post photos? I see photos posted a number of places.

    Hi guys, and Welcome Michael.

I've been moving things around a bit this past week, so it may seem like everything is everywhere, but I assure you it's not "that" bad.

For now the basic introduction to the forum layout:

Forum Root - The Arbalist Guild, FAQ&Rules, New Members

Crossbow Workshop - Medieval, Classic Recurves, Modern ...

Three sections each containing appropriately themed Project showcase (now serving both as Gallery of finished work and Crossbow builds in progress...choose which fits your style) and Design discussion/Construction help(design and construction related questions and discussions)

Technology & Resources - All the tech related questions and discussions.

Crossbow Talk - General Crossbow Chit-Chat.

Hope this explains it a bit....just trying to keep medieval and modern information organized. Smile

    Ivo

PS: I'm still working on the "useful links panel" dealing with just such questions, but unfortunately running a little behind the schedule.

Can't wait to see the pictures of your crossbows. Glad to hear you had fun at Estrella and got to get to the archery range. I brought the crossbow but unfortunatly didn't get away from volunteering for the Watch long enough to shoot. Maybe next year. At least I didn't get blown away in the wind storm Razz

ok, I posted a few photos of my crossbows in the workshop folder. I know they are not as fancy as some who have posted on this site but they do shoot well on the SCA target range. After seeing some of the photos on this site, I feel ready to do a more complex xbow with a steel prod (I bought one already in the 150 pound range).

Sure, would love to. Come out to the SCA Barony of Twin Moons (East Vally) archery practice and/or Fighter practice. Twin Moons has a number of crossbow shooters now.

Archery practice is on most Sunday mornings at Papago Park archery range and Fighter Practice is on Thursday nights at 7:30 pm.

Look up the Barony of Twin Moons web site for more details about location and times.

Oh I'm old blood in Twin Moons. My first SCA event was Estrella War in '98. Though at the time I wore a whole nine yards kilts with a skunk-pelt sporran.

I may just have to stop out Thurs. night. I'll be the shaved bald guy with glasses. lol
