    Post by Basilisk120 Tue Apr 26, 2011 10:59 pm

The local SCA group, the Barony of Tir Ysgithr in Tucson AZ, held its annual baronial championship this weekend and I won! cheers WOOT new Baronial Champion. This also makes me the first crossbowman to win the title in the barony. New Baronial Champion! 524936 Of course the drawback is that I have design and run the shoot next year.

So a big shout out to the wonderful Lightly for making my fine bow. Couldn't have done it with your fine craftsmanship.

Congratulations on the win. I saw the photos on Face Book, looks like you had a good turn out at the shoot too.
What do you think of your Baroness' crossbow? How was she shooting?
Make sure we meet and talk at the next event... are you going to Atenveldt Coronation on May 7th?
I'm teaching a crossbow history and making class at Kingdom Collegium in June (if your interested).

Lol you mean it isn't obvious to everyone? Suspect In the SCA a Barony is one type of local group, not as the name might suggest a collection of smaller groups. In this case it for the group that meets in Tucson, AZ. But the championship had about 30 people shooting of all skill levels, most with longbows and recurves but there were 3 people with crossbows. It really was fun event and if anyone is in the area I would recomend joining us next year (or you can come to the semi-weekly practices during the year as well).
Winning this contest means that I have ended up with a couple of extra responabilites in the SCA. One is to be in charge of the Championship next year (come up the the senarios and run the event) and be the Baron and Baroness Archery Guard in court (that would be SCA court not legal court I don't think a Judge would like that).
    Master Bran Padraig-
I do like the Baroness crossbow, she let me loose a couple of bolts through it at practice and it was nice and smooth and accurate. I believe she finished somewhere in the top ten and really did quite well for herself.
I may be going to the coronation, I haven't really thought about. Granted I have to stand in court now so I might have to go.

I'll definatly have to check out the crossbow class. If for no other reason than to make sure your teaching it right. Razz jocolor J/K I think it will be really interesting.

Congradulations on winning! Her Excelency's crossbow is sweet, and I've been plotting on what I want for my next one, since watching Bran Padraig building hers. (Hint hint honey! Laughing ) Looking forward to meeting you, whichever event you make it too.

Interesting where you get this kind of information, and why? How do we interpret your avatar after this?

DBoyd is known as Lady Deletha out here in the SCA Kindgom of Atenveldt (state of AZ). She is our premiere Kingdom Crossbow Champion and one of very few female bowmasters (period crossbow and open crossbow) in the kingdom.

The crossbow we were talking about/asking about is the last one I completed (posted a pic a month or two back, it's the central European one from cherry with the mircarta top) which is now owned by the new Baroness of Tir Ysgithr (Tuson, AZ) where Basilisk 120 won the Baronial champion archery shoot last weekend (which is done in each barony once per year). The Baroness is a newer shooter and I wanted to make sure everything was working well for her new bow. Sometimes crossbows can have a few "issues" that come up during the first few hundred shots. She would most likely never tell me if there was an issue so I try to check in on it from people who shoot with her and know more about crossbows.

Deletha did not have a hard time 'watching' me build that crossbow since we are married (for a long time). She is a much better string maker and can tie crossbow bridles better than me. She can also fletch bolts and cast bronze. Anyway, she is pushing for me to make her a new crossbow after seeing that one.

Her Avatar fits her so watch out Cool I think she is going to post an intro.

As to photos... I have some of that event that a friend posted on face book... I don't know if it's ok to post photos of others here or not... thoughts? Not the same thing as posting photos of objects.

Thanks for clearing things up. I failed to draw the connection - Mr. Boyd...Mrs. Boyd. Embarassed Very Happy Please, no more charade games with ones identity...this is still a weapons forum and honesty is held in high regard.

Well, don't forget - we got your back! New Baronial Champion! 951629 ...there is no need to solo this thing.

Especially now that SCA members are becoming aware of our group, you have a chance to hear their thoughts on the matter and take their wishes into consideration.

Good luck and I hope with the help of the group the event is a BLAST! Smile

    As for pictures...

You can ask the people for permission to post the pictures and/or even invite them to our group.

I do it all the time. king

    Congratulations, Basilisk!

Sorry, have not had time to enjoy the forums as much as I would love to, so I am late in my 'grats to you...
And you are certainly welcome for the crossbow, again, a joy to make! The most fun ones are for folks I know, I feel like I can put in more thought, and be more particular. Not that the spec bows are crap, lol!

Good luck with the extra responsibilities.. see what happens when you are good with something?!
