I really want to make a medieval crossbow, but I don't know how. Can anyone give me some instructions, or a video to watch?

Hey Tuffy I'm new here too.

The wiki on the right side of the website is very helpful.

Also youtube is a great resource to see how others have done it. I typed 'homemade crossbow'.

What helped me the most though was coming across an album Geezer posted of his apprentices' build. He pretty much documents each step.

Gotta watch out - some of those YouTube builds are dangerously built. "Homebuilt" tends not be not particularly good.

The building wiki has lots of good information. So does Iolos's Book at the New World Arbalist site. The discussions in the Medieval Crossbow section here have even more. There the book on-line by Payne-Galway as well.

A quick Google search will give you the basics. I would do a notch lock bow for a first project.

Hi you will not find a better source of info than here, ask questions here, and hit the wiki. One bit of advice i was given is sort your prod out first, then build your tiller, if you do it the other way round things can get tricky. Iv just finnished my first build and with the help of many friendly people and the wiki, i think i did ok. O welcome

    Welcome!

I am Geezer's Apprentice, now, Journeyperson... (female, FWIW...)
Here is a link to one bow that I made very early on in my apprenticeship, and there are lots of other sets to look at as well on my Flicker site.
Like I tell most everyone, this is the way that WE do it, NOT the only way, but, it is one way to make medieval bows...
I hope you enjoy looking at the photos, at least.

    Take Care!
