Kiwijim is absolutely right. The example you have shared with us is indeed awesome and obviously involved the use of raw materials, tools and skills.

I have always considered crossbows to be an art form, not unlike the making of "best guns" or indeed many other things that are not functionally improved by such pleasing embelishments. Who would deny the pleasure of feasting the eyes on such craftsmanship? Whilst mass manufacturers strive for efficiency and reliability for obvious reasons, we who "roll our own" have license to explore things beyond the bottom line.

The choice of wood and the selection of grain and colour are probably our first considerations before we start and I would be interested to know how any of you begin this fundamental act before making sawdust?

Please direct me to a specific forum section if I've started this in the wrong one Ivo.

I was so sure I posted here, but I'm now in shame...I haven't Embarassed

My apologies and a pile of compliments...once again to see the great Mr SAM's work on display...I'm honored to have it on The Arbalist Guild. sunny

As for approaching it's construction...I can think of numerous topics we can start Design/Construction section dealing with everything from design to materials requirements and construction methods. Mr. SAM was kind enough to provide us with the key element by posting his CAD drawings. Thank you Mr. SAM. All 10\'s

Also an interesting question...what are the specifications on this crossbow...mainly, what is the draw weight...I'm guessing above 300lb? pirat

You mean "draw weight"? I think Mr. SAM said it was 200lb, but I'll double check with Ivo since I only *heard* about it, but never actually spoke with Mr.SAM.

...been a while since Mr. SAM checked in, huh?
