    Hi,

I just met this very strange crossbow over net. Could anyone provide any information about it? It has snake shape prod. I have never seen anything like it.

From that picture we can't tell much more than that it does appear to be a pellet bow, and the prod does appear to be a recurve. The prod could be a composite similar to Asian "horsebows", or a metal prod that was shaped and then spring tempered.

It is a metal bow with unusual shape. Here another photo from different angel.

It's a pellet-bow allright.  There's a similar bow (maybe the same one?) in the collection in Chicago Art Institute's collections. !Geezer.

Now THAT's a seriously deflexed center section!  That spring is beautifully done, that's for sure!

I'm rather taken by that small slurbow above/behind it, myself.

Reminds me a little of the almost parallel limb crossbows of today, and their compact width.

Perhaps the "clock spring" prod design, reduces felt vibration/recoil, by dissipating much of the firing shock to the sides, rather than fore an aft as per conventional design of the time. I imagine this would be a great benefit particularly with a pellet bow.
