"Pulleys" out of dyneema Empty "Pulleys" out of dyneema

Post by hullutiedemies Tue Aug 06, 2013 1:01 pm

Recently bought a roll of B70 dyneema fishing line, to test for bow strings.
I soon noticed that it was allmost impossible to get a knot hold on these. There is practically no friction when rubbing dyneema on dyneema.
So it was quite logical to see how this does as bearing surface.

I assembled a quick ming-style doublebow from an unfinished project.

It shoots about as quickly as any compound. Pulling only 15kg/26cm stroke ( <20J ) puts a blunt 4mm wide 2gram stick about 1cm into dry conifer board - about as good as a reasobnably powerful target air rifle. So efficiency seems good.

    Here is the "pulley"

After a few shots and lots of work out draws does not yet show any sign of wear.

Neat!  So what magic knot did you use that finally would stay knotted?

I melted the tips of the thread with lighter. So tese became small lumps of plastic. And then pulled the knots open from inside until they would slide and catch the stopper lumps.

Sorry. I don´t understand how the bow works. (compound?) Is it OK for you Nerd F to show a bigger picture? Especialy on the sling-setup. Where is the sliding knots?

Can it be like this from the video you posted? http://video.baomihua.com/11240671/15674075?ab01

There's a great discussion of Nerd's Paleo-legal Compound bow here:

    https://thearbalistguild.forumotion.com/t689-paleo-legal-compound?highlight=paleo+legal

and that's the bow being referenced.  He's replacing the whole toggle lever setup with loops of dyneema....
