    Anyone tried making nuts out of this stuff? It comes in cylinder 1 1/2" diameter by 4 1/2" long, and 48" long.

    I haven't but it looks cool. I wonder if the Dymondwood would make a better roller nut. It looks to be harder/stronger.

    I suspect that this stuff would make a stronger nut than solid untreated wood. You would have to find a color that you could live with though. Some of the combinations they offer are kind of lurid.

    You could also look into stabilized woods. These might be useful for nuts and bearings. http://www.stabilizedwood.com/main.shtml

    Either of these products might have better dimensional stability across seasonal humidity variations.

    Has anyone out there used either of these? How stable are they? Are they stronger than untreated wood? How do they fail, when they do?

    Went to Texas Knife maker's supply web site to look at Dymmondwood cylinders. In 1 and 2 color pieces some look very natural, and in 3 color, some are still tasteful. I thought the 'cammo patterns' and 'Rio Grande apple wood' might pass, with field and stream almost making the cut. The black 1 color looks like variegated buffalo horn. Matching lock plates wood have to be carved to get the effect. I would save the flashy stuff for fantasy bows.
