the bow is made of yew and the tiller in plum tree (just because I had to cut a branch a few year ago and it staid on the workshop till this time).

Made with drawknife for the biggest part of the job.

I think the east asia primitive crossbow is much simple ( vietnam crossbow).
You had better add some bias spring to prevent failure activate the trigger.

Nice work! I've been thinking of a similar build for some time. One of these days...

Thanks... that's certainly the easiest to make... not sure why they more often use nut as it's really harder. accurancy certainly.
Good luck in your project too.

Why roller locks instead of notch-bows?  Ask me again when you've worn out your third bowstring.  But to answer seriously, roller locks are stronger, quieter, allow a better trigger release, and have substantially less wear on bowstrings.  Notch-locks have three major advantages: they span/lock faster and are cheaper/easier to make, with less materials cost.  You take your choice and pay the price.  Geezer.

I don't really know what you call roller lock and notch bow... I'm french speaking and I don't understand all the crossbow vocabulary.
I make it closer to the original one, not exactely but I don't think I have changed the logical of the original one even if it's not in good state of preservation at all.

There are literally hundreds of discussions here which detail what a Roller Lock and a Notch or Pinlock action are on crossbows.  The photo at the top of this discussion shows a Notch or Pinlock action.

Please do some research before asking such basic questions, it will save us all a lot of time and effort.

Hello Dark, I just happened onto this post. I am sorry for the way someone came a crossed about a question. Most of use are not THAT busy that  simple questions can not be answered. I could tell you were PO--ed, and rightly so.  After being here a while ,I feel it's the elders job to help further the knowledge. If we are to busy , just don't answer. Also , seems like we all can have a bad day. Don't let this keep you away from here. I know when I started out , I asked many stupid questions. I was always told , there are no such things as stupid questions. I have never forgot that. Nough said .

Beautiful build. Very good model for beginners (not that you are one). I have always had a special place in my heart for plum wood. Love the red-ish streaks.
