Took one of my good friends fron the city hunting squirrel yesterday
He took my shotgun and i brought the crossbow out with some new heads i wanted to try after being disspponted with blunts.
The head is a small broadhead with short sections on cut nails welded on the side to act as stops for when i hit a tree, or kick ups when i hit the forest floor instead of the target

This guy came down to about level on the base of an oak just over twenty yards away.    The bolt flew in slow motion and hit him right between the shoulders as he paused his desent, head towrds the ground.   A resounding thud, the bolt bounced out of him and he fell to the ground.   No running at all.

We took mine and his five squirrels and cut slits in the legs, salt peppered them from my horn, pushing the spices into the cuts.  Them skewered them on sticks and roasted them over a small fire in the woods.    Hard to beat

Yes, the bead front sight is common on stonebows.  Such sights are a bit fragile, but they give a very good view of the target, and can be adjusted by moving the bead right-left on the string, as well as moving the string itself up or down the ladder.  Geezer

    Thanks guys.
The bead is actually red glu tying thread wrapped tightly and secured in place. Even my smallest flu tying bead was a but too large to see a squirrel well at 25.   This small wrap makes it possible to see the precise point i want to aim at
And as geezer stated it is very easy to adjust.
It is more fragile than a metal pin, but versatile and it is protected on three sides.   If something were to hit it from the top though it could break it.   I used bowstring building material i had on hand, so it is pretty tough

Thanks so much lightly.   Your photoessay of your first apprenticeship build was the single most important thing in Helping me with this build.   It let me understand the workings, after pouring over plans and dialogue.

I never ever thought that photo essay would get so many views! I started Flickr, so, that I could photo record what went right and wrong, and learn from mistakes, and remember what I did "right", and share with family far away... I am glad it was useful!
    Best!
