    Hello everyone !

I'm in the process of making my 3rd attempt for a wood prod (hickory). I'll be over with the pre-tillering soon enough, I'll steam bend it with about 3 to 4 inches brace then, I'll apply the sinew/hide glue.

My prod is 37,5 inches ntn, 2 inches x 3/4 at the center and 1 inches x 3/8 at tip. I bought some hide glue and 6 back sinew from 3 rivers archery. Dp you think it's gonna be enough, I have my doubts aboput that. I'd like the sinew to be about 1/4 at the center and 1/8 or so at the end.  How much do you think will be needed ?

    Thanks in advance !

I'm thinking you're going to need some more sinew...I'm not sure how back sinew compares to the leg sinew I use, but my last prod used 12 elk leg sinews. Sinew shrink a lot as it dries...the freshly-applied backing needs to be put on about 1/2" thick, in order to shrink down to 1/4" as it cures.

Another advice, don't try to pre-tiller too much, just a general sense of bending evenly is fine. Once the sinew back is on, the risk of the prod exploding during tillering goes way down.

Thanks a lot for the advice OrienM, I'll definitely buy more sinew (I have 6, I'll buy 8 more). Back sinew is bigger than leg sinew though 12 inches or so compare to 6 inches I think ? Anyway, having some extra won't hurt.

Oh and by the way, for now, my prod is only tapperd 2 inches wide at the centre to 1 inche wide at tips. I didn't tiller it 3/4 thick center and 3/8 thick to the tips yet, it's only what I intend to do.
