Hi Lightly,
Yeah, his work is good and he turns out lots of replica's mostly knifes ans daggers, but he really likes his crossbows.
Leo Todeshini posts a lot on myamoury.com.
There are 2 nice threads on there, a bavarian crossbow tiller completly covered in carved bone and a spanish hunting bow with a bone Quarrel holder...(whats the right term).
I see on his site that the Tower of London has asked him to make 2 crossbows for display...he must do very authentic work.

When I first saw the Bavarian reproduction at myArmoury I think I stared at the thing for nearly an hour. Tod's level of craftsmanship is incredible, I bought one of his medieval eating knives and it looks just like it escaped the fifteenth century untouched. I could only imagine what these crossbows look like in person.

Indeed AMAZING work...as far as authenticity I leave it to the experts, but I've looked through the posts and he mentions how his friend does the bone carving...personally I would suggest a "real" dental high-speed air-handpiece for the job...but then again it's a personal thing so I leave it to you guys...thou getting one even for $700 is well worth the experience as it will be light years from that of using a hardware store handpiece jocolor

By the way, the heavily carved Bavarian bow from 'Tod's stuff' is a close copy of the Fels-Colonna bow that currently resides in the Wallace Collection in London. I highly recommend going by to see their collection if you're in the vicinity.
As for Tod's work... he's amazing. I would be jealous, but he would probably strike me with a lightning bolt... handmade of course. Geezer

In Lighly's topic Jason brought up an interesting question regarding the glue used for bone to wood adhesion... one of the above crossbows is an extreme example of such method. Therefore I'm also wondering what type of glue can be used in similar designs? Or even more...what methods/glues were usually used in such situations? hide- or fish-glue perhaps?

About Todd. I like crossbows even since I was a kid. I even made my own when I about 10-12 years old. The more pull weight the more I like'em. This pass year I had one made from the craftsman in Austin Tx, It was was feature on this site good work. How I found out about Todd and his love of crossbows. So I commission him to construct me one. This one is in the range of 300lbs. When I receive the crossbow I will share with everybody the enjoyment.

Sounds great Michael,

I was a fan of "anything that shoots" in my not so long ago childhood and seeing these beautiful crossbows that New World Arbalest is cranking out puts a tear in my eye (that and all the ladies at work sending cheers to Lightly...YEH Woman Power!!! Very Happy

) Great bows!

Hope you get your crossbow from Todd soon... the man seems very techy, yet still extremely traditional about it, so it's got to be good. Good luck!
