    Ok. Was at a local archery store again to check out crossbows. I had it pretty set in my mind to get an Excalibur brand crossbow. But the only one they had in my size was the equinox. But that is waaaaay out of my price zone. I also disliked the ugly boxy trigger. tenpoint's have beautiful triggers and feel but i prefer recurve, yes I know they have one. Anyhow I got around to holding a few crossbow anad held a new 2012 model, unsure of what it was but WOW did it look neat and the weight was perfect. The store owner said the xbow package would be in the 8-900 dollar range. i wanted something along the lines of 500-550, I also dont like the rifle stock excalibur's are I prefer pistol grips. Does anyone know a trustworthy sight online that could chip that price down to something more reasonable? Excalibur crossbows 874442478

    Could buy an Excalibur and build a wood stock for it that would fit the way you want. I have done that in the past and might do it for the Middleton I now have. Kodabow makes a great crossbow as well that has an AR-15 feel to it. But they are over 800.00 dollars.

    Not to seem like a dick but this is a crossbow building forum. Why not try to build your dream bow? If you want purchasing information there are a few crossbow forums where you can easily get that sorted.

    I didn't take any offense. Keeping track of one forum is hard enough so I figured I'd ask on here seeing how a few people have excaliburs. Going on the topic. Where can I get in contact with someone to make a custom excalibur crossbow stock?

    Here is a link over at crossbow nation where they discuss wood stock options. Might even see a couple of mine on there.

    The man (or artist) who makes really nice stocks goes by "Agingcrossbower". However I don't think they are cheap. Like I said earlier you could make your own it is not terrible hard to do. It does require some tools and patience though.

    Damn Todd! That almost musket bodied crossbow you made looks very cool! I'd like to see more pictures, DAMN thats a good looking Xbow! cheers

    Damn, again , a good looking crossbow, unsure of how it works... Anyhow I wish there was someone out there who made these commercially, such a unique style!

    Kale, you could find stock blanks from places like Dixie Gun Works and Track of the Wolf that aren't too expensive, if you wanted a starting point that was a bit more finished than Todd's starting point, a nice hunk of hardwood. The more you do yourself, the more satisfaction you get, though, and it won't be manufactured in a Chinese factory by what is essentially slave labor.

    I've got a few big ol pieces of cherry and walnut. big enough for a stock but too thick and i dont have a sander thicknesser or whatevermajigger. Which means a $%#@ ton of sanding to the right thickness.

    You don't need a thickness planer to get your billet down to a workable size. Cut the board to width with a band-saw and plane it flat. A circular saw would work as well, though you might have to cut from two sides. Geezer.

    If you have a lack for such tools as a band or table saw, check your local area for a cabinet shop. I think you'll find most wood worker types will be very helpful and interested in your needs and project and most likely very reasonable if they charge you at all, certainly worth a try. You might make a new friend or two as well as resources for materials and woodworking tips.

    Just another suggestion if you don't have the power tools or don't want the power tools. I would recommend using a hand plane to thin it out. It will be much quick and much less work than sanding. I made a couple of hand bows using little more than a hand plane to shape. Its work but it will be better than the alternative.

    Basilisk is right as usual: We have a tendency to expect power-tools to do all the work, but in fact, a really sharp hand-plane will do the work in a jiffy, with surprisingly little effort, with lovely results. You Will need a good clamp to hold your work in place.
    A little 9 inch smooth-plane will probably do the job, but if you have access to a larger 12 inch jack-plane, that will get your work straighter. Geezer

    Speaking of excals, if you would like to freshen the performance of your excalibur bow and bolt on some serious speed, I sell higher performance Middleton recurve limbs. Bolt on another 20-50 fps.

    Use a hatchet, Kale. You can buy one inexpensively,or borrow one. An old drawknive you can find at an antique store will more than do the trick, too. So will planes, you can find a bench plane for not much and it will do the trick. Don't be defeated by lack of fancy tools. Our ancestors didn't have electricity, after all.
