OK, we all know that front heavy bolts need no fletching for a straight flight.

    What if...

Good idea, Joerg. You could save weight and money by using the smaller, electric chain-saw. After all, it only has to run for the few seconds it's in flight, and perhaps 2/3 seconds after. So you could use small, flash-charge batteries as well!
In the future, we'll all have chainsaw-shooting crossbows! :-)# Geezer

Geezer, that IS an electric chain saw. I am testing with batteries now, problem is that most of the smaller batteries don't provide enough Amperes.

Total weight (chainsaw + full battery + pole) is 2,8 kg. I hope to reduce it down to 2,1 kg.

Hey Joerg, still at it, are ya? Laughing

In cutting down on weight, you'll probably want to strip the housing. And with smaller batteries lacking juice...have you thought about stacking thin/cylindrical batteries in series? To keep things compact, given the shaft is hollow, you can try and pack it with batteries. You can pretty much get any Amperage by stacking.

So, grab a multimeter! Good luck!

I have bought enough CR123A 3 Volt Li batteries, they are listed at 2 Amperes per. I guess that if I use 6 of them in series, I should be good - at less than 100 gramms (instead of 800 gramms for the Black and Decker battery pack). The idea is to put them all in a small plastic tube, wire it up, then push it down the pole.

    Outrageous, as usual, Georg.

Is that a raven I hear at 1.24? I think he is looking forward to a meal of beheaded zombi.
