Prod length for a Whamo Powermaster crossbow? Empty Prod length for a Whamo Powermaster crossbow?

Post by OllieQueen on Tue Jul 23, 2013 9:06 am

Question for the group.  I recently purchased a Whamo Powermaster crossbow via ebay.  It arrived sans prod, probably a result of that catastrophic failure that the original aluminum ones were so famous for.

I'm looking to replace it with a fiberglass prod. My question is this: what is the proper length for a replacement prod and what length string should I purchase?  I'm new to the realm of crossbows, this was my first one and I picked it up on ebay for a song, so any guidance that you might offer me would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ollie

Welcome, and a question for you, What is the distance from where the prod mounts to where the string catch is? The draw length affects how wide the prod is so as not to over stress it.

Alchem sell steel replacement prods for the Powermaster but they are known for their slow delivery time.

Ah, OK. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.  The distance between the mount and the string release is 15 1/2 inches.  Would an after market fiberglass prod work? I've seen the pricing on the steel prod from Alchem after reading a few postings here, but they seem a bit pricey.  It may just be one of those things I have to save my pennies for.

    Thanks again,

    Ollie

Yes, a fiberglass replacement prod should work. The other factor is how the prod is held in place and the space into which it must fit.

Not saying Kenh is wrong but most fiberglass replacement prods are about 28" long and are designed for a shorter draw length of around 13-13 1/2". Barnett makes one for their Panzer V model that uses a longer draw but I don't know the exact draw and besides they too are more expensive (think around 60 dollars)

ah, OK.  Thanks I'll check with alchem again.  The fiberglass price you quoted me is substantially less than what I saw when I was looking before.  Perhaps I was looking in the wrong place.

    Many thanks,

    A.
